CHAMPAIGN, Ill, (WCIA) — President-elect Donald Trump is still scheduled to be sentenced in his hush money case on Friday.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected his last-ditch effort to delay his sentencing in New York state court before he takes office in a 5-4 vote.

Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in May. Prosecutors called it an attempt to cover up a $130,000 hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Brian Gaines, a political science professor at the University of Illinois, said while this is a never-before-seen time in American history, the same can’t be said around the world.

“It’s not unprecedented for world leaders to have had criminal convictions and still be inaugurated, so how it’ll be viewed abroad I’m not sure,” Gaines said. “Again, it’s going to change American minds, I don’t think it’ll change international opinion greatly about President Trump. He’s in many respects an unusual figure.”

Trump has denied any wrongdoing. The judge overseeing the case has indicated that he will not impose jail time or probation.
