Juneteenth, a federal holiday that commemorates when the last slaves in the United States learned they were free, is June 19, but there are plenty of festivities scheduled throughout the week.

From pound cake to “dukes and boots,” here’s how you can celebrate this year.

CLERMONT

The City of Clermont is hosting its 4th annual Juneteenth celebration on June 21 from 3 – 7 p.m. at Waterfront Park.

Clermont’s event page notes the event will include vibrant cultural performances, live music and games.

Date: Saturday, June 21

Time: 3 – 7 p.m.

Location: Waterfront Park

LONGWOOD

For an event a little bit later in the evening, and on the day of the holiday, head to Longwood.

Free small bites and live music by the Silke Smoove Band and Kells The Experience will be at the City of Longwood’s 4th annual Juneteenth celebration on June 19 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Longwood Community Building.

Date: Wednesday, June 19

Time: 5 – 8 p.m.

WINTER HAVEN

Live in Winter Haven and want to connect with your local nonprofits?

The City of Winter Haven plans to give guests the opportunity to meet with local nonprofit organizations that serve their community at its Juneteenth celebration from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Reuben Williams Sports Complex.

The city made a post on Facebook announcing that the organizations will have booths set up that those in attendance can visit.

Time: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

DAYTONA BEACH

Juneteenth Daytona will be hosting two separate Juneteenth celebrations.

The Juneteenth Family Festival, which features a wide variety of vendors, food trucks and community organizations, will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Cypress Park. The festival will also feature live music, games and a pound cake competition.

Guests can enter the pound cake competition for free at the event’s website. Judging begins at 2 p.m., and cakes that must be refrigerated will not be accepted.

Time: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Location: Cypress Park

The Juneteenth Hometown Heroes Banquet, an event that honors community leaders and unsung heroes, will be held on June 19 at Mori Hosseini Student Union inside Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 7 – 9 p.m.

Date: Thursday, June 19

Time: 7 – 9 p.m.

Location: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

EATONVILLE

Central Florida Juneteenth Celebration is hosting a “Dukes & Boots” event that will feature Southern hip-hop and line-dance anthems. The encouraged dress code is denim, cowboy hats and wide-brim hats. The venue is Angel’s Chicken Express, which will be providing the food as well.

General admission is free. A four-person reserved table, though, is $70.15 with taxes and fees not included.

Date: Thursday, June 19

Time: 3 – 9 p.m.

Location: 521 East Kennedy Blvd.

MOUNT DORA

The City of Mount Dora announced a Juneteenth Festival scheduled for June 21 from 3 – 8 p.m. at Cauley Lott Park in the events section of its website but revealed no further details.

Date: Saturday, June 21

Time: 3 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Location: Cauley Lott Park

WINTER GARDEN

The City of Winter Garden is hosting a Juneteenth Community Celebration event on June 21 at Charlie Mae Wilder Park from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. The celebration includes activities, community resource booths and a variety of food & merchandise for sale, according to the city’s website.

Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and the event is being held rain or shine.

Date: Saturday, June 21

Time: 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Location: Charlie Mae Wilder Park

ORLANDO

Black Theatre Girl Magic, a nonprofit organization seeking to create a racially just and more equitable entertainment industry for black and brown women, is hosting its 5th annual Facets of Freedom Juneteenth Festival on June 19 from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. at the Orlando Family Stage.

From 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. guests attend a Juneteenth Lunch and Learn Programming which includes book reading, play performances, art projects, balloon animals and face painting.

Live musical performances and two Facets of Freedom performances are held for the remainder of the event from 1 p.m. – 9:15 p.m., according to the event’s agenda.
