Immigration enforcement ramps up nationwide

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – Immigration enforcement operations are ramping up across the country, as law enforcement agencies kicked off a series of raids targeting migrants with criminal backgrounds.

While the Trump administration is seeing cooperation across multiple U.S. law enforcement agencies to deport migrants, other countries are pushing back against their efforts.

President Donald Trump said his crackdown on illegal immigration in the U.S. has only just begun.

“Sending every border trespasser and violator back to the places from which they came,” said Trump.

Countries like Guatemala began receiving migrants deported from the U.S. but others like Colombia initially blocked the flights over concerns of how the Trump administration was treating the migrants.

After threatening 25% tariffs on all Colombian incoming goods and visa restrictions the White House announced Colombia would accept the flights.

“We’re seeing a kind of chaos,” said Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

Democrats, like California Senator Adam Schiff, criticized the Trump administration’s efforts.

Schiff warned the actions would also increase prices when President Trump vowed to lower them.

“Mass deportations of farm workers in California, maybe half the workforce, are going to drive food prices through the roof. Mass deportations of construction workers are going to drive housing prices even more through the roof,” said Schiff.

Border Czar Tom Homan told ABC’s This Week to expect more actions.

“If you’re in the country illegally, you have a problem,” said Homan.

Homan has been in Chicago monitoring raids which he said have resulted in the arrests of people convicted of serious offenses and those without criminal convictions.
