SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A person from Springfield was arrested just over the state line in Indiana on three drug charges Friday evening.

On May 9 just after 6 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Grundell was patrolling Interstate 74 near mile marker eight in Fountain County when he conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 Buick for a speeding violation.

While speaking to the driver, 41-year-old Shanna McCrary of Springfield, Grundell detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. He then conducted a search of the Buick based on the smell.

During the search, Grundell located substances believed to be fentanyl and marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia. The suspected drugs were then collected as evidence and will be submitted to the Indiana State Police Laboratory for further analysis to determine the exact identity and weight of the substances.

As a result of the search, McCrary was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Possession of a narcotic drug (Level 6 Felony)
  • Possession of marijuana (Class B Misdemeanor)
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia (Class C Misdemeanor)

During this incident, Grundell was assisted at the scene by the Convington Police Department. This investigation remains ongoing.
