BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. () — Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner will host a public meeting addressing an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program.

The 287(g) program is a federal-local partnership that gives local law enforcement authority to perform immigration enforcement by identifying and removing undocumented immigrants.

This program is active in 40 states, including Georgia and South Carolina.

According to an article by The Island Packet, the meeting will take place Tuesday, July 8 at 5 p.m. at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, located at 1501 Bay Street in Beaufort.

Residents will be allowed to ask questions about ICE and its program.

Members of the Beaufort County Council will co-host the meeting, including Chair Alice Howard (District 4), York Glover (District 3), Gerald Dawson (District 1), and David Bartholomew (District 2).
