SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities in Sumter County are actively pursuing an inmate who managed to flee from a detention facility in Bushnell on Sunday.
The escapee, named as 39-year-old Joseph Brown, reportedly made his exit from the Sumter County Detention Center on East Anderson Avenue shortly after 5 p.m., according to an official statement.
Officials described Brown as approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing in at around 200 pounds. He is bald and has brown eyes.
The statement noted that Brown was not being held on charges related to violence. However, the public is urged not to confront him if spotted, but rather to immediately call 911.
Witnesses last saw Brown wearing green pants and possibly a white shirt or no shirt at all during his escape, the authorities added.

A significant law enforcement presence is currently in the area, including the use of drones and a helicopter to assist in the search.
