SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Coastal Heritage Society welcomed a special delivery over the past few days that took four semi-trailor trucks to transport.
It’s an exhibit called “Numbers in Nature” and once it’s installed in the storehouse building, it will be the first exhibit of the new STEAM Center at Savannah Children’s Museum. It will also be the children’s museum’s first indoor space.
Preservation and upgrades of the 100-year-old storehouse are nearly complete and Coastal Heritage Society said installation could begin next week and the exhibit will open later this year.
“Numbers in Nature” is an exhibit that intersects math and nature into an interactive experience, making complex concepts easy for children to understand, expanding out-of-school learning opportunities. Its signature feature is a mirror maze.
Meanwhile, a fundraising effort is underway to support this project. Savannah natives Malcolm and Julia Butler committed to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $150,000 for the STEAM center.
