APOPKA, Fla. – Tom, of Apopka, is a proud Vietnam Veteran — and we’re proud of him, too — so when he asked us to mount his American flag outside his front door, we were happy to show our appreciation and respect for his service to our country!

His mount had fallen off the wall, so he asked us to do it properly.

Step 1

Drill. But don’t use just any drill! We brought with us a hammer drill – it has a feature that allows the drill bit to hammer into and through the concrete block. It makes drilling into concrete soooo much easier. And don’t use just any drill bit! We bought a concrete drill bit – you can tell it’s for concrete because the tip has wings on it – slightly smaller diameter than the Tapcon concrete screws we planned to use. We marked the 3 holes on the wall using the flagpole mount and then drilled into the concrete.

Step 2

Screw. But don’t use just any screws! We bought Tapcon concrete-specific screws (slightly larger than the drill bit diameter). Tapcon is a popular brand but any screw specifically made for concrete will work (some people choose to use concrete wall anchors to hold the screws in place, that works too). Place the mount on the wall and screw the screws through the mount and into the concrete. (Tom touched up and painted where his old mount was placed). Now hang your flag!
