The community’s anxiety is mounting as efforts to locate two missing doctoral students from the University of South Florida gain urgency. With investigators casting a wide net across several counties, friends and colleagues of the students express growing concern for their safety.

Authorities from both the University of South Florida Police Department and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office have issued a public appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of Zamil Limon and Nahida S. Bristy, both 27 years old. The pair were last seen in the Tampa area on April 16, and their disappearance has sparked widespread worry.

Zamil Limon, who is pursuing a doctorate in geography, environmental science, and policy, was last observed around 9 a.m. at his apartment on Avalon Heights Boulevard, located conveniently close to the university. Since then, there has been no verifiable communication with him, leaving friends and family in distress.

Meanwhile, Nahida S. Bristy, a doctoral candidate specializing in chemical engineering, was last seen an hour later, around 10 a.m., at the NES Building on the university’s Tampa campus. Her sudden absence has left a void among her peers and mentors.

The search continues as the community rallies for any information that might lead to these young scholars. The collaborative efforts of the police departments underscore the determination to bring Limon and Bristy safely home.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has since taken the lead on the investigation.

According to the office, detectives are actively following leads and conducting searches in multiple locations across Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, while USF police continue to assist.

Authorities said there are no signs of foul play at this time.

Friends described the situation as unusual and troubling. Md Rakibuzzaman, a graduate student at the University of Georgia and a close friend of Limon, said the lack of communication is out of character.

“It doesn’t feel normal,” he said, “It’s a pretty complex puzzle to me. Like I said, he is a very decent person, but what’s going on in his personal life…I don’t know.”

Rakibuzzaman said staying in touch has been challenging since both students moved to the United States from Bangladesh for their studies, but the sudden silence has raised alarm.

“We are very far from each other, and like, we don’t get like much time because we are both graduate students, you know, we have a lot of academic pressure,” he explained. “He’s very like punctual and very serious about his academic life. That’s the only thing I and I can surely tell you.”
