AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. () – Thursday night, January 23rd, at 9:08 p.m. the Aiken County Coroner’s Office was called to the Lexington Medical Center to investigate the shooting death of a Batesburg- Leesville man.

The shooting occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on the 100 block of Pine Circle in Monetta.

Authorities say the victim, identified as 21-year-old Remedee Jennings-Leaphart, was initially taken to his mother’s home in Batesburg-Leesville, then his family drove him to a medical
clinic in Batesgurg-Leesville where Lexington County EMS was called to transport him to Lexington Medical Center.

The victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at 8:35 p.m. from a gunshot wound.

Jennings-Leaphart will be autopsied today in Newberry. The Coroner’s Office along with the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office are continuing with the investigation.

Jennings-Leaphart was a superstar quarterback at Ridge Spring-Monetta, leading them to the state quarterfinals his senior season. He was on Team South Carolina for Border Bowl IX in 2022 and was also All-CSRA that year.
