UPDATE: Demarion Quinton Butler, 19, has been named a person of interest in this shooting, according to the Screven County Sheriff’s Office. Those with information are asked to call (912) 564-2013.

NEWINGTON, Ga. () – The Screven County Sheriff’s Office has requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) in a deadly shooting Monday that left a 21-year-old dead.

According to police, officers responded to Simpsontown Road in Newington, Ga. in reference to a shooting at about 12:55 p.m. on April 7, 2025. It was there that law enforcement discovered Isaiah Barbee, Jr. of Sylvania, Ga. with a gunshot wound. Barbee was taken to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

As of 7:45 p.m., the Screven County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a male subject on Simpsontown Road near Red Field Road. Those in the area are asked to secure their residences and report any suspicious activity.

Barbee’s body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler, Ga. for an autopsy.
