Israeli Strike in Gaza Kills 4, Including Children, as Middle East Tensions Deepen

An Israeli strike in northern Gaza killed at least four people, among them two children, according to local reports. Separately, a media outlet run by Iran-backed Houthi rebels said Saudi-backed forces had carried out airstrikes in multiple areas.

Here are the latest developments from across the Middle East. Full coverage can be found here.

Israel launches deadly strike in Gaza

Two children were among those killed when Israel carried out a strike early Thursday in Beit Lahiya, a community in northern Gaza, Shifa hospital said after receiving the bodies.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the Beit Lahiya strike. In a separate statement, it said its forces had targeted Hamas weapons storage sites in three locations across Gaza on Wednesday.

Israel’s military in the past has said it carries out strikes in response to threats against its forces under the fragile ceasefire that has been in place since October.

Houthis claim Saudi-back forces strike again

Al-Masirah TV, controlled by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, claimed Saudi-backed forces launched 40 airstrikes in recent hours in Taiz, Jawf, Hodeida and Marib provinces.

The Associated Press couldn’t immediately independently verify the Houthis’ claim as fighting with the Yemeni government forces has heightened this week. There was no immediate comment from the Saudi-backed forces.

Warnings have been growing about a major escalation as the Houthis clash with Yemeni government forces and attack oil facilities and utilities in neighboring Saudi Arabia.
