Jacksonville Police Standoff Forces Closure of Nearby Middle School


JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A tense situation has unfolded in Jacksonville, where police have been in a standoff with a suspect, leading to the temporary closure of Jacksonville Middle School nearby.

The standoff, taking place at the intersection of Park and Smithland Streets, commenced early in the morning, around 6:41 a.m. Jacksonville Police have taken to social media to describe the event as isolated and have urged residents to steer clear of the vicinity.

The Illinois State Police are actively participating in the operation. According to their statements to WCIA, the suspect is presumed to be armed; however, authorities assure that there is currently no danger to the general public.
