AUGUSTA, Ga. — This Saturday marks the beginning of in-person registration for a generous turkey giveaway hosted by the James Brown Family Foundation. This annual event aims to support families in need by providing them with meals during the holiday season.

As Thanksgiving is fast approaching, with just two weeks to go, the Foundation has prepared to distribute hundreds of turkeys to families throughout the region. Each family will receive one turkey along with an assortment of nonperishable food items to help complete their holiday meal.

In light of the ongoing government shutdown and the subsequent delay in SNAP benefits, Dr. Deanna Brown Thomas has noted there may be an increased turnout this year as more families seek assistance. The Foundation is prepared to accommodate the potentially larger crowds, ensuring that no family goes without this holiday season.

It will be one turkey per family, along with nonperishables to take home.

And with the government shut down and SNAP benefits being delayed, Dr. Deanna Brown Thomas says there could be a possibility for longer lines.

“There’s a very big possibility that our lines will be a lot longer this year because of people losing their SNAP benefits. And we are preparing for that as well. It’s almost like we’re back in the pandemic somewhat because people more people are needing help and maybe it’s a family that’s never had to stand in line before.”

You can register tomorrow and next Saturday November 15th from 9-11am at May Park.

Bring your ID and current power bill or lease for proof of residency.

Pick up is November 24th.
