LOUISVILLE, Ga. () – Christina Shepherd, the driving force behind the Jefferson County Library System, has been lauded with the prestigious title of Library Director of the Year. This accolade was announced on Wednesday by the Georgia Public Library Service, highlighting her exceptional contributions to the library community.

The award was bestowed upon Shepherd in recognition of her outstanding leadership and her unwavering commitment to cultivating a vibrant library environment. Her efforts have not only transformed the Jefferson County libraries but have also left a notable imprint across the state.

“It’s remarkable to consider that Christina Shepherd is still relatively new to her role as a library director in Georgia,” remarked Julie Walker, Vice Chancellor for Libraries and Archives and State Librarian. “Her impact has been profound, both locally in Jefferson County and on a broader state level. The libraries here have always been cherished by their communities, but Christina injected much-needed energy, enthusiasm, and innovation. Her fresh ideas and determination have significantly enhanced our programs and services.”

Shepherd took the helm of the Jefferson County Library System in 2024, following a career in library services that began in 2011. Her journey has been marked by a series of accomplishments that have revitalized the libraries she oversees.

Denetria Dixon, a part-time library assistant at JCLS, praised Shepherd’s relentless dedication, stating, “Her tireless commitment has been the true revival our small library system desperately needed. She saw potential where others saw limits, breathing new life and purpose back into each of our branches.”

As a director, Shepherd emphasized the importance of community involvement.

“We attend outreach events held by the cities, such as back-to-school fairs, health expos, and Christmas on Main Street, wherever we are invited,” said Shepherd. “I attend the town council and commission meetings and offer library services when I hear something relevant, such as offering space for FEMA after the hurricane or lending hotspots so a presentation can proceed without issue.”

 The library will celebrate with an awards ceremony and public reception on Thursday, March 26, 2026 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the Louisville Library, 306 East Broad Street in Louisville.
