AUGUSTA, Ga. (-TV)– September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, and it’s also a time to think about gynecological cancers in general.
Did you know there’s a support group for women here in the CSRA? The associated foundation has an annual tradition of giving cancer patients a chance to relax and forget about their disease for a while with a spa day. The nonprofit educates and supports local women with gynecological cancers.

Dr. Sharad Ghamande, a gynecological oncologist with Georgia Cancer Center, started the group 21 years ago.
“With cancer, one of the hardest parts is fear. It’s fear of the unknown, and one of the ways to mitigate that is to be able to match them with somebody who’s been there done that and just talking about their treatments.”
Gynecological cancers can manifest with a range of symptoms, including abnormal vaginal bleeding or discharge, pelvic pain or pressure, and changes in bowel or bladder habits. it’s crucial to be aware of these potential signs and consult with a doctor if they persist or cause concern.
And as a part of Gynecologic Cancer Awareness month, the Les Reagan Singers will be doing a benefit concert for the CSRA GYN Cancer Support Group this Friday night.

The concert is in memory of Patti Fowler, who was a member of the support group and served in the children’s ministry at FBC Augusta for more than 30 years.
The LRS will present “Songs from the Soul,” featuring special guest artist, Russell Joel Brown.
The concert is Friday, September 5th at 7:00pm in the Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta.
