JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson City Brewing Company celebrated the grand opening of its West Walnut Street taproom on Saturday.
Eric Latham, owner of Johnson City Brewing Company, said his crew “finally made it” and that the taproom is “finally open” at 714 W Walnut St.
“We bought this thing, I guess, in March,” he said. “And six months later, here we are open. And so a lot of people from our staff are amazing. Our co-owners, the community, you know, our business partners, helped make all this happen. And we’re really appreciative of that way.”
Latham said he and his wife, Kat, wanted to be a part of the newly renovated Walnut Street.
“There’s a lot of great stuff that’s happening here and a lot of great stuff yet to happen,” he said. “But we just wanted to be a part of it.”
He told News Channel 11 about what the taproom has in store for guests.
“Well, we got a lot of fall beers that we’re releasing right now, but everybody knows Oktoberfest style. It’s a Marzen-style lager, and we have our original one,” Latham said. “And then we made two that are kind of interesting, but they’ve been pretty popular. We’ve got a butterscotch version and a pretzel version, like a salted pretzel version. And, they’ve been popular, and we like to experiment and make different things and try to make things that people haven’t had before.”
Johnson City Brewing Company has been in business in the Tri-Cities for 11 years, Latham said, and his crew has “big plans” outlined in his next ten-year business plan.
“Well, and we’re seeing all the familiar faces we love, that is, if you can run a business for 11 years and you get people coming back, you know, business is not built,” he said. “I don’t think a community is built on a one-and-done thing. It’s coming back and, you know, making that bond stronger and stronger. And so that’s pretty neat to see.”
Latham said the company will host an 11-year celebration at its original location in Boones Creek on Oct. 25. He said the Halloween party will feature live music, fall-themed drinks and side dishes from Chef James Allen of The Blackthorn Club.
