In a significant crackdown on illegal drug activity, the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has apprehended a Johnson City resident, marking a substantial victory in their ongoing efforts against narcotics distribution. Bobby Gale Phillips Jr., a 64-year-old man, now faces several felony charges following an intensive investigation by the authorities.
The arrest came as a result of diligent work by the WCSO’s specialized unit, known as the “Sheriff’s Strike Team” (SST). A detailed news release from the sheriff’s office highlights how the team conducted multiple controlled purchases of methamphetamine and cocaine directly from Phillips at his home on North Roan Street.
The breakthrough moment occurred on December 27 when SST officers were monitoring the area and spotted Phillips driving on Lambeth Drive. Acting swiftly, they initiated a traffic stop. Phillips attempted to evade arrest by pulling into his driveway and fleeing on foot, but deputies quickly apprehended him after a brief chase.
The operation culminated with the discovery of several incriminating items in Phillips’ possession. These findings underscore the comprehensive efforts by the WCSO to combat drug trafficking in the community, reflecting a robust commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
The following items were found in Phillips’ possession, according to the WCSO:
- 23 grams of Methamphetamine
- 12 grams of Cocaine
- 12 Gabapentin pills
- 25 Oxycodone pills
- 3 Morphine pills
- Several needles, pipes, baggies and spoons
The WCSO reported that Phillips violated the Tennessee Drug Free School Zone Act because he lived next to Indian Trail Middle School while possessing and selling narcotics.
Phillips was charged with the following:
- Manufacture/Delivery/Sell/Possession of Methamphetamine – two counts
- Knowingly Maintaining a Dwelling or Other Structure – two counts
- Schedule II Drug Violations To Wit: Drug Free School Zone – three counts
- Drug Paraphernalia
- Resisting Arrest
- Evading Arrest
- Driving While Suspended
- Driving While in Possession of Methamphetamine
- Violation of Probation
As of Monday, Phillips is being held without bond in the Washington County Detention Center.
