JOHNSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Johnson County now has two vacancies on its Board of Education.

The vacancies are a result of Kimberly Kleine’s resignation last month and Gary Matheson’s resignation on Wednesday.

County Attorney Ryan Carroll said during a commission meeting on Thursday that the recent resignations, along with several other events, suggest that Johnson County is facing a difficult period.

“It’s just been a hard year on us. You know, you’ve got the hurricane. You know, we lost approximately $25 million worth of roading, according to FEMA. You know, we missed a month of school due to a terrible winter on top of that,” Carroll said. “So we’re in a time where kids struggle enough with social media and all their problems. And we’ve got this going on, and it’s just a really volatile time.”

Johnson County Mayor Larry Potter announced on Wednesday that the county received millions in Hurricane Helene relief funding, which will be used to replenish the road department’s fund balance.
