SAVANNAH, Ga. — On Thanksgiving Day, the Salvation Army opened its doors to the community, inviting everyone to enjoy a warm holiday meal.

With the help of volunteers from SCAD Serve, Second Harvest, and other local organizations, guests were treated to a traditional feast featuring turkey, pie, and classic Thanksgiving sides. Volunteers were on hand to prepare meals, manage orders, and serve the visitors as they arrived.

Captain Elyse Doborwicz emphasized the importance of this yearly event, underscoring its role in making sure no one spends the holiday alone.

“Holidays can be challenging, especially if you’re far from family or facing tough times,” Doborwicz explained. “We aim to create a space where people can find joy, hope, and laughter.”

As the busiest time of year for the Salvation Army, Doborwicz noted that there are numerous opportunities to volunteer or seek assistance. For more information, please click here.

Salvation Army will host another holiday meal for anyone in the community on Christmas.
