JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Jonesborough Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted to approve a speed limit increase on a part of Boones Creek Road Monday night.

The speed limit will increase from the current 30 mph limit to 45 mph on the one-mile section of Boones Creek Road heading north from the Jonesborough town limits and East Jackson Blvd.

Mayor Kelly Wolfe said moving from 45 to 30 miles per hour last year decreased accidents, and that public safety leadership said a happy medium should still keep the corridor safe while improving traffic flow.

Wolfe added that a new traffic circle in the area will help.

“The fact that we’re going to have a traffic circle there around Parsons Circle connecting to the new school, as it has been approved by TDOT, and TDOT will be funding that,” he said. “We’re very appreciative of it. And I think the new speed limits through that area reflect the reality once the traffic circle goes in.”
