WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A Jonesborough man was arrested Saturday and charged with abuse of an elderly adult after allegedly choking a woman and keeping her from leaving a home.

The Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) issued a news release Monday stating that Joseph Douglas, 42, had been charged with abuse of an elderly adult, aggravated assault, kidnapping and vandalism.

Deputies responded to a home in the 200 block of Archer Road on Saturday afternoon. Douglas reportedly came out of the home and turned himself over to deputies.

The victim told the WCSO that Douglas had choked her and pushed her into furniture. He also allegedly threatened the victim’s life, broke her cell phone and did not allow her to leave the home.

The sheriff’s office stated that the victim had injuries consistent with her statement.

As of Monday, Douglas remained in the Washington County Detention Center without bond. He is set to appear in court Monday.
