SAVANNAH, Ga. () — The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is awarding a $50,000 grant to St. Joseph’s/Candler to expand access to breast cancer screening for uninsured and under-insured women across the Savannah area.
The grant will support St. Joseph’s/Candler and its Telfair Mammography Fund, which is a program that eliminates costs as a barrier for women to access lifesaving early cancer detection.
Hundreds of women in the area will gain access to mobile mammograms, early detection services and breast health education.
The announcement comes along the annual Back to School Giveback Weekend, hosted by Savannah native and Kay Yow Servant Leader Flau’jae Johnson.
“This grant reflects what can happen when people come together,” said Jenny Palmateer, CEO of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. “When a community leader like Flau’jae uses her platform, a health system delivers critical services, and an organization like ours helps remove barriers, the result is powerful. This kind of collaboration is exactly what Coach Yow envisioned—and we’re proud to make it real.”
On-site mammograms will be offered at the event. For more information, click here.
