Kingsport Resident Allegedly Evades Authorities, Collides with Washington County Home

A dramatic pursuit unfolded in Washington County, Tenn., when a Kingsport man attempted to flee from law enforcement, culminating in a crash into a residential property. The incident has led to multiple charges against the suspect, highlighting the risks of reckless driving and evasion.

On Tuesday afternoon, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) were on routine patrol along Knob Creek Dock Road when they noticed a vehicle speeding at an alarmingly high rate—over twice the legal limit. This prompted an immediate response to intercept the driver.

The suspect, however, chose to evade capture, initiating a brief but dangerous chase. The pursuit came to an abrupt end when the vehicle lost control and crashed into a home located in the 200 block of Knob Creek Dock Road. Thankfully, the occupants of the home were unharmed, as confirmed by the WCSO.

Following the incident, the Tennessee Highway Patrol was called in to conduct a thorough investigation of the crash site and to remove the vehicle involved. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences when individuals attempt to flee from law enforcement.

The driver was identified as John McGuire, 38. McGuire reportedly got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody.

While patting him down, deputies reportedly found $3,674 in cash in his coat and vehicle. Additionally, the WCSO reports an unlabeled pill bottle holding several pills was found.

In a social media post, the WCSO stated McGuire identified the pills as Subutex and 10 Suboxone tablets wrapped in cellophane. The sheriff’s office also reported finding a set of scales, a pipe with burnt residue and a pink baggie with six grams of a substance consistent with methamphetamine.

McGuire was charged with the following:

Possession of methamphetamine
Simple possession
Unlawful drug paraphernalia
Due care
Driving on a revoked/suspended license (second or more offense)
Evading arrest
Speeding
Financial responsibility law violations
Unlawful removal of registration decal

McGuire was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and held on a $55,000 bond. He was set to appear in court Wednesday, and the WCSO stated additional charges are pending.
