JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The ETSU women’s basketball team is set to face off against UNC Greensboro this Thursday night, building on the excitement of their recent double-overtime victory over Chattanooga.

This game marks the second encounter of the season between the Lady Bucs and the Spartans. In their January meeting, ETSU secured a 58–48 victory on the road against UNC Greensboro. With both teams tied at 24 wins each in their all-time series, this game presents an opportunity for one to gain the upper hand.

Currently holding a 6–4 record in Southern Conference play, the Lady Bucs are gearing up to conclude their 2025–26 home schedule with consecutive games against UNC Greensboro and Western Carolina. Head coach Brenda Mock Brown noted that their previous encounter with the Spartans provides the team with a strategic advantage heading into this rematch.

“We’ve already faced UNC-G on their home turf, and they’re known for their tough defense,” Mock Brown stated. “Our focus this time is on three key areas: maintaining ball security, controlling the rebounds, and improving our transition defense. Greensboro excels in scoring during transitions, so it’s crucial we address this weakness to secure a win.”

Senior guard Anala Nelson reinforced this strategy, highlighting the importance of effective execution on both offense and defense as vital for their success.

“We’re just making sure that we’re taking care of the ball, playing with pace and just guard how we know how to guard,” Nelson said. “I feel like that’s the main plan of the game.”

Mock Brown is 3–4 against the Spartans during her tenure at ETSU. Tipoff between the Lady Bucs and UNC Greensboro Spartans is set for 7 p.m. in Brooks Gym.
