Lakeside teacher now on paid leave, termination recommended

COLUMBIA COUNTY () – Lakeside High School has issued a statement to parents, Monday, updating them on the status of the investigation into teacher Jerry Meitin.

Last week, the Columbia County School District announced that Meitin was reportedly no longer employed by the District, after allegedly making threating comments to a student.

Meitin is charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts after being accused of threatening to shoot students. 

Today, Lakeside has issued a letter stating that a recommendation for termination has been made, but Meitin is currently on paid administrative leave, pending the results of an investigation into the matter by both local and district authorities.

Dear Parents,

We are notifying you today to provide clarification regarding an ongoing investigation involving a Lakeside High School teacher, which was communicated last week. At this time a recommendation for termination has been made, however, the employee is currently on paid administrative leave pending results of the investigation by both local and district authorities.

This step aligns with the Columbia County School District’s standard operating procedures for
personnel matters.

Please know that we appreciate and value the feedback and concerns shared by our students,
staff, and community members regarding this process; Your voices are important to us.

Safety remains a top priority, and we want to reassure you that these measures are important
to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff. We are firmly committed to holding all employees to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity as leaders and
role models in our schools.
