BEAUFORT, S.C. () — South Carolina is at the center of the political world as its Republican presidential primary is underway.
Former President Donald Trump is taking on former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley. Both campaigns stumping in Beaufort on Wednesday. Trump’s family members are spreading across the Palmetto State to echo his message.
Around 100 supporters packed into VFW Post 8760 to hear from Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump. Lara Trump is taking sharp aim at President Joe Biden and Democrats.
“I believe and I’ve believed this from 2016, that this is not a fight between Republican and Democrat, left versus right. This is good versus evil, God is on our side,” Lara Trump said to a crowd of cheers.
Voters in Beaufort told that they trust the former president because they say he’s proven to them that he’s a conservative. Although many supporters here deny the 2020 election results that won’t discourage them from heading to the polls.
“Experience. He’s already proven himself. We don’t have to play games with Trump,” Lisa Freeman said. “He already showed us he didn’t put us in any more wars. He got our economy on track. He made us feel proud again.”
Lara Trump said if Trump wins back the White House he’ll push through tough border restrictions. Trump promised to tackle illegal immigration and launch the biggest deportation effort in American history.
“We have got to close our borders if we don’t have a border ladies and gentlemen, we do not have a country,” Lara Trump said. “I know a man who has always had a plan and did it when he was president of the United States.”
The latest poll from The Hill puts the former president ahead of Haley by 23 points. Trump has won support from prominent Republicans like Gov. Henry McMaster and both of South Carolina’s state senators.
Lowcountry Representative Nancy Mace said that shows a clear message that South Carolinians want Trump, not Haley.
“South Carolina is Trump country,” Mace said. “Every single member of the South Carolina delegation, save for one person, is supporting Donald Trump. He’s the man that South Carolinians want to defeat Joe Biden. He’s the only guy that can and he’s going to crush it here in South Carolina on Saturday.”
If you want to vote early in SC’s republican primary you can until Thursday or voters can wait until election day on Saturday.
