Leesburg Park Tragedy: Two Suspects Officially Charged with Murder in Teen’s Shooting Death

LEESBURG, Fla. – Authorities have charged two individuals with murder following the discovery of an 18-year-old who was fatally shot in a vehicle at Berry Park in Leesburg. This announcement comes months after the tragic incident, according to the state attorney’s office.

The Lake County State Attorney’s Office has filed charges against James Fenderson IV, accusing him of being a principal to third-degree murder and possessing firearms illegally as a felon and delinquent. Meanwhile, D’yuntre Jeraun Wright faces charges of second-degree murder.

On December 14, Leesburg police officers were called to Berry Park, where they discovered Juan Gomez Jr. with gunshot wounds inside a car. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A probable cause affidavit reveals that a burglary occurred in the vicinity, and the victim was able to identify the suspects as acquaintances. Witnesses reportedly saw two individuals matching the suspects’ descriptions entering and exiting Gomez Jr.’s vehicle, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Fenderson IV and Gomez Jr. had arranged to meet at the park for a gun purchase. The two discussed that Gomez Jr. would offer $175 in cash and two marijuana edibles for a .45 caliber gun.

Wright was in the front passenger seat while Fenderson IV was in the back seat when Wright shot Gomez Jr., according to the affidavit. The affidavit also shows there were two additional people in the vehicle when the fatal shooting happened.

Fenderson IV and Wright are being held without bond.
