In Nashville, Tennessee, the state’s Senate has approved a resolution to pay tribute to former Congressman Phil Roe, who represented Northeast Tennessee. The resolution, introduced by Senator Rusty Crowe from Johnson City, proposes that Congress rename Dogwood Lane at the Mountain Home VA to Congressman Phil Roe Boulevard.

Phil Roe, known for his leadership as chairman and ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, is recognized for his pivotal role in implementing significant reforms for veterans. Senator Crowe highlighted Roe’s bipartisan efforts, stating, “Congressman Roe’s leadership on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee led to some of the most significant reforms for veterans in modern history. Time and again, he worked across party lines to ensure the men and women who served our nation received the care, benefits, and respect they deserve.”

Roe served as chairman and ranking member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.

“Congressman Roe’s leadership on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee led to some of the most significant reforms for veterans in modern history,” Crowe said in a release. “Time and again, he worked across party lines to ensure the men and women who served our nation received the care, benefits, and respect they deserve.”

“Congressman Phil Roe dedicated his life to serving others as a physician, a veteran, and a public servant who always fought for those who served our country,” state Rep. Rebecca Alexander of Jonesborough said. “Few people have done more to improve the care and benefits our veterans deserve. Renaming this roadway in his honor is a fitting tribute to a man whose legacy of service will last for generations.”

Roe retired from Congress after representing Tennessee’s First Congressional District for six terms.
