PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Tampa Bay Lightning secured their 10th straight victory with a commanding 5-1 triumph over the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday night, thanks to standout performances from Brandon Hagel, Jake Guentzel, and Nikita Kucherov, who each contributed a goal and an assist.
This game marked a significant milestone for Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, as he celebrated his 600th regular-season win. Cooper achieved this feat in his 1,005th game, making him the second-fastest coach to reach this mark, trailing only Scotty Bowman, who accomplished it in three fewer games.
Hagel and Brayden Point both found the back of the net during power plays, helping the Lightning achieve their second victory in Philadelphia within just 48 hours. This winning streak is the team’s fourth instance of achieving 10 consecutive victories and the first since their franchise-record 11-game winning run in February 2020.
During the game, Point scored just 4:29 into the second period but sustained a leg injury on the play, awkwardly twisting as he hit the ice. He was assisted off the rink by his teammates and did not return to the action.
Both Pontus Holmberg and Guentzel made an impact with quick goals. Holmberg scored just 1:10 into the first period, while Guentzel capitalized on an unusual bounce, redirecting an Erik Cernak shot off his pants past Flyers’ goalie Dan Vladar only 33 seconds into the second period.
Kucherov added an empty-net goal, extending his streak of multipoint games to 10. He has 47 points in his last 22 games.
Jonas Johansson made 19 saves for his 10th win this season.
The game was especially chippy, as the teams combined for 21 penalties, totaling 78 minutes.
Christian Dvorak scored goal for Philadelphia, which has dropped three straight.
