LINCOLN COUNTY, Ga. () — The Lincoln County Red Devils ignited community spirit on Friday night as they gear up for the state championship showdown this coming Monday.
It’s been nearly two decades since the Red Devils clinched a state championship title, and the town turned out in droves to honor the team’s return to the finals.
The pep rally was a whirlwind of energy, with enthusiastic cheers and chants as players, cheerleaders, and the school’s marching band took the spotlight. Many residents expressed immense pride in the team’s flawless record this season (14-0) and are eagerly anticipating their performance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
“I’m wholeheartedly dedicated to Lincoln County and everything that embodies our community’s spirit,” remarked Christine McNeese, director of the Lincoln County Development Authority.
“This marks our first trip to the state finals in 19 years, and we’re thrilled to support these young athletes. Their hard work has paid off, and now they stand on the brink of securing the state title.”
Family members also shared their confidence in the team’s ability to bring home a win.
“I’m very excited for him,” said Stephanie Partridge, a mother of two Lincoln County students. “He’s the kicker on the football team and does a great job. All the players do. They’re built, they’re strong, and they work hard in this community.”
Bradford McWhorter, whose brother plays for the Red Devils, kept his message simple: “I’m looking forward to us winning the game.”
For some families, Monday’s matchup carries even more meaning. Beth Armour has two sons playing for Lincoln County and says a championship would be the perfect holiday gift.
“All I want for Christmas is a ring for my boys,” said Armour.
The celebration wrapped up with a fireworks sendoff honoring the players, cheerleaders, and marching band as they head into the championship.
Lincoln County Schools will be closed Monday as the Red Devils take on Bowdon High School in the state championship game.
