ORLANDO, Fla. – Today’s Trooper Steve on Patrol live stream is all about something that sounds simple but seems to cause chaos on the daily: merging.

Now, we all think we know how to merge — it’s just changing lanes, right? But if you’ve ever yelled at your windshield because someone cut you off without signaling or crept into traffic at 20 mph, you know it’s not that simple.

So here’s your annual reminder, straight from the Results-1 team:

1. Use. Your. Signal.

It’s not a suggestion — it’s your way of saying, “Hey, I’m about to do something. Don’t be surprised.” Your blinker is your best friend when merging. Use it early and often.

2. Know your role.

If you are merging into traffic, then you are the one who needs to yield. It’s not the other driver’s job to slam on their brakes to let you in. Merging means you are asking to join the party — not crashing it.

3. Get up to speed.

This is a big one. One of the biggest mistakes drivers make is trying to merge onto a highway while going way too slow. The ramp is there to help you build up speed and blend smoothly into traffic — not cause a rolling roadblock.

We know merging can be stressful, especially during rush hour or when someone else decides to forget these simple rules. But if we all commit to these basics, the road becomes a lot more predictable… and a lot less rage-inducing.

Catch us live today at 10 a.m. as we break it all down with real-life examples and a few personal merging horror stories (because we’ve all been there).

Stay safe and merge smart!
