SANFORD, Fla. – As we continue shining a light on pedestrian safety, I want to take a moment to focus on some of the busy areas in our community where foot traffic and vehicle traffic meet — and sometimes collide. These are the roads many of us travel every day, but they’re also the paths neighbors and families use to get where they need to go.

Unfortunately, during Friday morning’s traffic report, we shared heartbreaking news: a fatal crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. After our show, I went out to the scene myself. One thing stood out immediately —there wasn’t a crosswalk in sight.

I understand that not every street has a crosswalk or a safe crossing point, but it reminds me of something important: at the end of the day, we’re each responsible for the decisions we make on the road, whether we’re walking or behind the wheel. Every choice matters.

Today, I’m taking that message to Rinehart Road and State Road 46 in Sanford. It’s an area many of you know well—lined with businesses on both sides, and a road that sees thousands of drivers every single day. It’s the kind of place where safety should never be an afterthought.

So as we head into the weekend, let’s end our Friday with a little extra awareness and care.

Join me on our live stream at 10 a.m. as we take a closer look at this busy stretch of road, talk about ways we can all be safer, and hopefully inspire each other to make decisions that protect lives.

Let’s keep looking out for one another.
