EUSTIS, Fla. – A student was found with a loaded firearm on campus at Eustis High School on Wednesday, according to school officials.

In a message to families, the school explained that two of the student’s peers had come forward to administrators, notifying them about the gun.

As a result, the student was searched, leading to the firearm’s discovery, school officials added.

The student was arrested, though additional details have been provided about the incident at this time.

A transcript of the call to families reads as follows:

“EHS families,

I’m calling to let you know that one of our students was found with a loaded gun on campus today. No one was threatened or injured. The weapon has been retrieved, and the student has been arrested. It was found quickly as a result of two responsible students coming forward to administration. When the student was searched by school officials, they found the weapon.

Please remind your students that weapons and dangerous instruments are not allowed on campus, and we take all safety violations very seriously. Safety concerns can be reported to any adult on campus, directly to law enforcement, or anonymously through the speakout hotline at (800) 423-TIPS, or FortifyFL.

Thank you for working with us to keep our campus safe.”
