SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Local county and city governments are preparing ahead of possible weather emergencies.

The City of Savannah announced Saturday afternoon that it has entered the Alert and Strategic Planning Stage, Operating Condition (OPCON) 3, which represents a significant increase in the threat posed by a tropical cyclone to the city within the next 72 hours.

The city’s Sanitation Department is encouraging residents to secure sanitation carts and any loose debris or items that could become projectiles in the event of high winds.

Jasper County officials have declared a State of Emergency ahead of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine (PTC 9). This is effective immediately.

The county is urging residents to begin preparation and review emergency plans, monitor reliable weather sources and be ready to follow guidance from local emergency management officials.
