SAVANNAH, Ga. () — A distressing video showcasing a violent altercation at a local educational institution has rapidly gained attention online.

Nekkethya Carner, an eighth-grade student at Myers Middle School, recounts being attacked on campus earlier this week.

According to her mother, Tamara, the students involved in the assault faced no disciplinary actions and remained in class, prompting her demand for explanations and justice on behalf of her daughter.

The footage captures several students physically assaulting Nekkethya in the corridors of Myers Middle School.

Carner explained that the confrontation was triggered by a dispute involving a boy.

“She had turned around and dropped her stuff, and so she came running and I just stood there like I didn’t take a step,” said Carner.

“I just stood there and I waited, and then as soon as she kicked me, everybody just came running, and then they started hitting me,” said Carner.

“So that’s when I felt extra hits, like I was covered up, but I felt extra people hitting me,” said Carner.

Tamara Carner, mother of Nekkethya, says she feels like her daughter’s safety hasn’t been taken seriously after she’s received several different stories from school staff about what happened that day.

“I said so, Miss Thompson, did she get jumped or was it a one on one fight,” said Tamara.

“I’m like, no, I want to see that video, because she shouldn’t have gotten jumped, and where were the teacher at,” said Tamara.

Tamara also stated that due to the incident, she can’t sleep and that she’s worried because the kids who jumped her daughter are still in school.

We reached out to Savannah Chatham County Public School System about the incident, and they told us they spoke with the school principal yesterday and that the matter was being handled administratively.

We will keep you updated as we learn more.
