Local law enforcement agencies mourn loss of GBI special agent

GLENNVILLE, Ga. () — Area law enforcement agencies are mourning the loss of Georgia Bureau Investigation (GBI) Special Agent Tracy Sands.

Several agencies, including Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, Metter Police Department, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office and others, shared their love and support after the news of his passing Saturday.

According to a Facebook post from the GBI, he “served our community with dedication, integrity, and compassion. His commitment to the badge and the citizens of Georgia will never be forgotten.”

Agencies shared their condolences to his family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers during this time.

“Tracy was more than a colleague — he was family. His dedication, kindness, and presence filled our office with strength and unity, and his absence will be deeply felt,” a post from Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office said. “Our hearts go out to his beloved wife Melissa, his son Matthew, and the entire Sands family.”

“The GBI Family mourns the loss of one of our own. Gone too soon, but forever remembered. Rest in peace, Special Agent Sands.”
