FORT PIERCE, Fla. (WFLA) — A shooting incident in St. Lucie County resulted in one person being injured and another taken into custody.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were called to the scene on January 8 at approximately 7 p.m. The disturbance was reported in the 1300 block of West 1st Street.
According to dispatchers, the situation began when a woman returned home to discover an unfamiliar man standing in her driveway, clutching a bag.
The man was later identified by authorities as Jamie Perry Van Zagarella, age 48, who had arrived at the scene on a bicycle.
Concerned, the woman reached out to her neighbor, 68-year-old Donald Berry Green, to help assess the situation.
Arriving at the scene, deputies said they found the neighbor pointing a firearm at Zagarella, who was seated on the grass and appeared to have sustained a gunshot wound to the right calf.
St. Lucie County Fire Rescue provided medical aid, and Zagarella was taken to a nearby hospital.

An investigation revealed that Green encountered Zagarella in his neighbor’s driveway while on the phone with her.
Deputies said that Green held Zagarella at gunpoint and ordered him to get off his bicycle and lie on the ground. He then fired a warning shot into the ground when Zagarella failed to comply.
Detectives determined that Green unlawfully and forcibly confined and restrained Zagarella, intentionally causing bodily harm and threatening him with violence.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office arrested Green on charges of false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery.
