BLACKVILLE, S.C. () — The streets of Blackville are getting ready to come alive again. The annual Blackville Music and Art Festival is back.
“It all started from a dream that the Lord gave me,” Organizer Terrance Washington recalled. “He told me to put together this festival. It’s about bringing the kids together and showing them they can have a career in music and arts.”
New this year, they’re shining a light on history. “Blackville is a very artistic and creative town,” he added. “Most people don’t know the history. Marvin Sease is from Blackville. So is Nigel Sawyer. He’s going into the Hall of Fame. He worked on the ATLiens CD cover and more for Outkast.”
This year’s festival also highlights big local names. The Wizard, producer behind “803 Fresh,” is Grand Marshal. His siblings, Mimi LaSalle and Nico Grande, are performing too. And yes, the food is back. “One of the things I love is the young lady with the cooked pineapples,” Terrance said. “My daughter can’t get enough.”
Washington says the festival helps the community. “It brings in money from outside. It impacts the economy. And it shows the kids they can get there from the start.”
The Blackville Music and Art Festival runs May 16 and 17 at 483 Main Street. Events start Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11.
