NEW YORK – Kenny Loggins has raised objections to his music being featured in a social media clip depicting an AI-generated video of President Donald Trump releasing waste from a jet amidst last weekend’s “No Kings” demonstrations.

Shared on Saturday night via the Republican leader’s Truth Social platform, the video uses Loggins’ track “Danger Zone,” famously associated with the hit 1986 film “Top Gun” starring Tom Cruise. In a Monday statement on his website, Loggins expressed that he did not grant permission for the song’s use and has requested the video’s removal.

“I find it incomprehensible why anyone would want their music linked to something intended to sow division,” Loggins stated. “We face too many forces pulling us apart. It’s crucial that we discover paths to unity. We are all citizens of the same nation, sharing in our patriotism.”

Despite Loggins’ appeal, the video continued to be accessible on Truth Social as of Tuesday morning. Over the years, various artists, including Adele and Bruce Springsteen, have similarly voiced their disapproval of Trump using their music during campaign events and other instances.

Representatives for Loggins responded to The Associated Press’ request for additional comment Tuesday by reissuing his statement from the day before. The White House responded to a request for comment with a still from “Top Gun” with the caption “I FEEL THE NEED FOR SPEED,” paraphrasing one of the film’s famous lines.

This isn’t the first instance of Trump employing music in AI videos; earlier in October, he used Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t Fear the Reaper” in a post concerning Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought.

Large crowds turned out around the country Saturday for the latest round of “No Kings” rallies, at which participants denounced what they see as the authoritarian policies of the president. Trump on Sunday dismissed the rallies as a “joke” and told reporters, “I’m no king.”
