In Champaign, Illinois, a beloved game store is preparing to close its doors for good. Dr. G’s Brainwork’s, an educational board game store located in the Marketplace Mall, is bidding farewell after seven years of service. The store also had a location at Urbana’s Lincoln Square Mall, where it has been a fixture since 2013. Established by Doctor William Gingold, known as Dr. G, the store combined his expertise in education and psychology with a passion for board games.

Despite the closure, the current owner, John Dimit III, hopes that the community will continue to cherish board games. Reflecting on the store’s impact, Dimit shared, “It’s a complicated emotional state, but it’s one that I think we leave behind such a legacy of family fun and enjoyment.” He emphasized the universal appeal of board games, whether enjoyed with biological family or a chosen family, and expressed gratitude for having provided a space where people could find joy through gaming.
