TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — As visitors of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay enjoy a new portion opening at the park this Spring, they may just notice a few new animal species as well.

The theme park announced Thursday that several new animal species, including a giant anteater, capybaras, squirrel monkeys and tropical birds, are joining the more than 200 existing animal species.

According to Busch Gardens, the animals arrived from AZA-accredited facilities across the nation, and will live in Habitat Hideaway— a new addition to the park.

Before fully integrating into their new home, each animal underwent routine quarantine and a health exam at the park’s Animal Care Center.

“We’re beyond thrilled to welcome these incredible species to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay — some for the very first time!” Kayla Wendzel, Zoological Curator of Wild Oasis, said. “Their arrival marks an exciting milestone toward opening day, when guests can connect with these fascinating animals in a lush, immersive environment.”

This month, a new Wild Oasis at Jungala is opening, as Busch Gardens and Adventure Island undergo a $40 million project for additions and upgrades. Wild Oasis will feature new animals, interactive climbing structures, an immersive splash pad and a self-guided scavenger hunt.
