CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Just a day after Ben Humrichous played a pivotal role in securing the Illini’s third consecutive victory over Mizzou in St. Louis, he was trading his jersey for a suit to marry Adalia McKenzie, a former standout for the Illini women’s basketball team.

Humrichous shared that he emphasized to his team the importance of winning, given the tight schedule leading up to his wedding, which caused him to miss his own rehearsal dinner due to the match against the Tigers.

“I told the guys, I really need you to focus… do it for me, and for the future of this team,” he recounted.

The couple first crossed paths last season in the training room while both were athletes for the Illini.

Their strong bond has proven to be beneficial both on the court and in their personal lives.

“She’s been such a blessing to me,” Humrichous said.” We could talk about the basketball stuff, about the moments after tough games when you go home or even the celebration, she’s one of my biggest fans.” “Off the court, she encourages me, and she points me to Jesus when I’m having a hard time, I mean, she’s incredible.”
