Lowcountry churches offer shelter ahead of cold weather

In anticipation of a cold spell set to last through Tuesday morning, churches across Beaufort, S.C., are stepping up to provide vital shelter for those in need. The Lowcountry community is demonstrating its solidarity and commitment to helping vulnerable individuals during these chilly times.

Sea Island Presbyterian Church, known for its community-focused initiatives, has opened its doors to serve as a refuge from the biting temperatures. This initiative underscores the church’s ongoing dedication to supporting the local population with warmth and safety.

  • Located at 81 Lady’s Island Dr. in Beaufort
  • Open the following days and times:
    • Sunday, Dec. 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Monday
    • Monday, Dec. 15, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Tuesday
  • Dinner, showers and breakfast will be provided
  • Weapons, alcohol, drugs, smoking and pets are not allowed
  • Service animals are permitted
