MAHOMET, Ill. (WCIA) – The Mahomet-Seymour football team found itself in a position which its not overly familiar with.

The Bulldogs started the year 0-2, with losses to Morton and Morris. They didn’t the panic button, but instead responded with back to back dominant wins. MSHS beat Sycamore 45-16 in week three and topped Taylorville 69-27.

“What I am proud of is the way that we’ve stayed the course,” Mahomet-Seymour head football coach Jon Adkins said. “We stayed positive throughout the 0-2 start.”

Mahomet-Seymour needed guys to step up from a leadership standpoint, on a team without a heavy senior presence. Adkins says several guys have answered that call.

“Beau Back, our middle linebacker, has done a great job directing traffic – getting those young kids up to speed,” Adkins said, among others he mentioned.

Now, the Bulldogs gear up for a difficult test with 3-1 Mt. Zion visiting for the Friday Football Fever Spotlight Game of the Week.

“We’re not trying to lose this game,” Back said. “It means a lot to us.”
