In Kingsport, Tennessee, the Kingsport Aquatic Center (KAC) recently hosted an engaging session aimed at informing local teenagers about upcoming summer job opportunities and special classes available throughout the year.
This summer, the center will offer its Babysitting/First Aid Camp and Junior Lifeguard Camps during the months of June and July.
Participants can sign up for the American Red Cross Babysitting and First Aid/CPR/AED Camp, which will be held on seven different dates. Each session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the cost to join is $40. Interested individuals can register or gather more details by clicking here.
Dates for the Babysitting and First Aid Camp include:
- June 8
- June 10
- June 22
- June 24
- July 8
- July 21

The American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard Camp is tailored for youths aged 11 to 15. While it provides valuable skills, it does not certify attendees in first aid, CPR, AED, or as lifeguards. Prospective participants must meet certain prerequisites, which can be found in full here.
The day camp will be offered five times and costs $200 for KAC and YMCA members, or $225 for nonmembers. To register or learn more, click here.
Junior Lifeguard Camp dates:
- June 1 – 5
- June 15 – 19
- June 29 – July 3
- July 13 – 17
- July 27 – July 31
KAC said the camp helps those interested in a summer job prepare to possibly work for the center, which is looking to fill several positions.
“Every year, it is a bit of a struggle to find lifeguards,” Madison Gump, KAC program coordinator, said.
“It is a lot of physical work and physical labor, so we are just out here searching. Again, if you’re a high schooler or a college-aged kid, or even an adult just looking for a flexible work life.”
