SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A man accused of murdering a Kingsport woman in 2019 accepted a guilty plea deal this month, Sullivan County’s Assistant District Attorney Kristen Rose confirmed.

Nathaniel White-Young was initially charged with first-degree murder after Melissa Mingle, 37, was found unresponsive in her front yard on Fordtown Road on Oct. 6, 2019. Mingle died days later.

White-Young was located by police in Hamblen County and taken into custody under an arrest warrant days after Mingle’s death. He had been wanted on charges of attempted first-degree murder, and those were upgraded when Mingle died.

Following White-Young’s plea deal acceptance on July 10, the court is charging him with the following:

  • 2nd degree murder
  • 2 counts of aggravated arson
  • 4 counts of tampering with evidence

Rose told News Channel 11 that speculation during the time of Mingle’s death circulated that she was pregnant at the time of her killing, but autopsy results concluded she was not.
