SANFORD, Fla. – A man who claimed self-defense after a lethal shooting earlier this year has now been arrested, according to the Sanford Police Department.

In a release, police said that the incident happened back in June, when 21-year-old Christopher Houston arrived at HCA Lake Monroe while suffering from gunshot wounds.

From there, investigators said they learned that the shooting had taken place in the area of 12th Street and Pecan Avenue, police added.

Shortly afterward, though, 32-year-old Jocquise Jarrells contacted the police department, claiming that he’d shot Houston in self-defense, the release states.

“Based on the investigation, Sanford Police Investigators could not substantiate Jarrells’ claim of self-defense,” the release reads. “Jarrells’ claims were contradicted by witness testimony and evidence on scene, which revealed that Christopher was not a threat to Jarrells during this incident.”

As a result, police announced that Jarrells was taken into custody on Wednesday and now faces a charge of first-degree homicide.

Detectives are still urging anyone with information about this shooting to contact the police department or Crimeline at (800) 423-8477.
