AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Augusta man who was wanted in connection to two different rape cases has been convicted and sentence to life in prison.

According to Augusta Judicial Circuit District Attorney Jared T. Williams, Travis McNeil was convicted and sentenced to Life in Prison plus 20 years.

According to authorities, McNeil was wanted for a rape that happened on the 3400 block of Milledgeville Road in October 2016 and for a separate rape that happened on the 3600 block of Deans Bridge Road in December of 2018.

D.A. Williams states that the case tried this week was the incident that happened in October 2016.

Authorities say that in the late evening of October 1st, 2016, the victim was in her vehicle with McNeil when he made unwanted advances, and when she declined, McNeil began to force himself upon her.

Authorities state that the victim was able to exit the vehicle and attempted to run from McNeil, only to be caught and overpowered, and then, McNeil choked her and forced her back to her car, where he raped her in the back seat.

According to D.A. Williams, from 2016 to 2025, McNeil went unconvicted of this charge and was caught due to a DNA match from another case outside of Augusta.

“McNeil is a predator and a rapist, with zero regard for bodily autonomy, and our state is a safer place with him locked away,” says D.A. Williams.

According to D.A. Williams, Richmond County Jury returned a verdict on Guilty for both Rape and Aggravated Assault by Strangulation.
