STATESBORO, Ga. () — A former local business owner has been sentenced to more than 27 years in federal prison after he recorded minors using a tanning bed.
Walter Joey Drew, 43, of Kite, has been sentenced to 327 months in federal prison for sexual exploitation.
Drew was the owner of Legacy Performance Center in Lyons, a gym and tanning center that has since closed. Here, Drew captured sexually exploitive images and videos of children using his gym.
He also recorded a friend of his teenage children while she dried off with a towel in Drew’s home in Toombs County, and on another occasion while she used the tanning bed at Drew’s gym.
Drew is accused of recording at least six other teenage children.
A U.S. District Court Judge ordered Drew to register as a sex offender, pay a $1,500 fine, pay $800 in special assessments and serve 20 years of supervised release after he completes his prison term.
